Is laser eye surgery right for me?

Laser eye surgery is generally an option for most people over the age of 18, although for older people (over 40) lens replacement surgery might be more suitable. Those with a high glasses prescription might also find that lens corrective eye surgery (Implantable Contact Lens – ICL) is the best course of action, depending on their condition.

How much does it cost?

Laser eye surgery has become increasingly affordable thanks to advancements in technology, and Mr Hove offers a range of finance options to spread the cost.

You can view specific procedure costs on the prices page.

What can I expect?

A relatively pain-free experience
Due to the anaesthetic drops which are applied before the procedure, laser eye surgery itself is generally pain-free, but following the treatment, patients may feel some discomfort in the early stages of healing. The level of discomfort you experience depends upon the type of surgery you’ve undergone, but any pain will be short-lived, and you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of improved vision within a matter of days.

Sharper vision

Sharper vision is experienced quickly after laser eye surgery, although in some cases it can take several months before the vision stabilises completely.

The best quality laser

Most patients notice a significant improvement to their vision within 24 hours of surgery. You’ll see a vast improvement by the end of your recovery period, which depends upon a number of factors including the type of treatment you’ve undergone.

Short recovery time

There is normally good immediate post-op vision, which improves further within hours. This usually allows you to have treatment with a little break from your normal life. This makes IntraLASIK much more convenient than LASEK.

sub-images-laser-eye-surgery
Laser eye surgery is a procedure which is undertaken to improve the eyesight. Laser refractive surgery (laser eye surgery, laser vision correction, PRK, LASIK or LASEK) is laser treatment using an excimer laser to change the shape of your cornea (front window of your eye) to better focus light onto your retina. Laser treatment aims to correct myopia (shortsightedness), hyperopic (Longsight) and astigmatism. Wavefront-guided treatment also aims to reduce wavefront aberrations.

Wavefront aberrations
These are imperfections unique to each individual eye. Some eyes have significant amounts of wavefront aberrations which cannot be corrected by glasses or contact lenses, known as ‘high order aberrations’. Quality of vision and visual potential can be improved if these aberrations are reduced during laser vision correction.
